Updates for my Portfolio for January 2021
January has ended in a rather interesting way, with WallStreetBet reddit guys fighting against Hedge Funds Shorts and seemingly killing it via GameStop Buying.
I have been reading of many people making it big from this.
Yet as of writing this post, GameStop shares have plunged hugely, as it starts to die down, I hope those who got in are fine. Those who got in nearing the end would be very painful.
I have undergone 2 dental surgeries and have more or less recovered. So does my wrists.
Hope to have more exercise soon.
I managed to test quite a few ideas for a side project I am working on. But as I work on it, the more information I learnt, the more things to try. Now I am trying to narrow down to what is feasible first.
- PSQ 14.0 Calls exercised+Sold balance (Loss)
- Reasons
- In hindsight, I should have realised that tech is actually somewhat innovating and growing rather than thinking it was overvalued (due to the growth and hyped nature of the underlying components), this is contrast to old era stuff from the DOW which may be more cyclical in nature.
- Decided to cut loss and use the funds for something more useful.
- Sell VT at 92.87
- Reasons
- For my system, when the candlesticks are short and sickly, it is usually a good time to run.
- I decided to sell my position instead of putting a stop loss (which I had no system to do so).
- Perhaps in the future, I should include the usage of stop losses for such a scenario.
- Profit about 0.87%
- Buy VT at 93.0877
- Reasons
- And realising my mistake I re-entered and waited.
- Sell VT at 93.85
- Reasons
- Prices closed below the MA line due to the GameStop fiesta I feel.
- Profit for another 0.81%.
- I forgot to screenshot the chart =\
That's all for my money for now.
The US market are slight red but still expensive, who knows if we might see a correction. Trying hard to find something to buy but nothing attractive for now.
On a side note, Eagle Hospitality Trust filed for bankruptcy so I guess, it is a definite write-down on my books, oh well.
I have also started to add some funds towards Endowus monthly too. Will look to allocate half of my investment savings from my salary increment each year.
Conclusion
My portfolio YTD is now ~29%, with the long term XIRR at 3.22%.
My cash position is currently at about 15%. Probably keep an eye out for opportunities while conserving cash (there's still a balance transfer the size of about 10% of my portfolio ready).
