Updates for my Portfolio for August 2020

Still working on the project as well as the side gig.

The side gig submission seems to be a challenge regarding the feedback. Thinking of seeking some help externally and see where have I missed out, and ways I can improve.

I have also received information that I have been promoted so something nice (Thank you ty!). I am anxious about the increment amount so I can start running numbers to project as well as allocating the increment (maybe another +1% to savings rate? CPF?).

I thought I looked back at 5 years ago when I joined my current company.
From my records, I ended that year with about 125k in net worth (inclusive of CPF).

As of 31Aug2020, I realised I have a total of 457k (inclusive of CPF).
Feeling amazed at how things have grown by just half a decade.
  • Buy Illumina at 346.8
    • Reasons
      • Just adding a small position to average up slightly.
  • Sell AX Aug 21 2020 25.0 Calls at 0.9
    •  Reasons
      • I was trying to sell my position so I sold a call option which is near the money.
      • Ends up, the option was not exercised, which thus lead to the next transaction.
  • Sell AX Sep 18 2020 25.0 Calls at 0.85
    • Reasons
      • Selling another Call to sell my position.
      • Will probably keep repeating this until I sell my position.
      • The premiums are rather fat, so it is rather nice, though the position is rather small.
  • Buy Amazon at 3298.5
    • Reasons
      • Okay, frankly, I was rather unhappy at work that day when I bought this. I was looking for a share to invest in but couldn't really find anything cheap (yes, I have this weird habit).
      • I saw Amazon was priced slightly more than fair value, I thought I nibbled one tranche before waiting for prices to go up.
  • Sell Lion Rock at 0.70 (Loss)
    • Reasons
      • Switching out more than half of my position to fund the Amazon purchase, the hit of 45% loss is rather painful. The illiquidity of the counter doesn't really help in disposing the shares.
      • I expect the company to struggle for some time though they probably can tide through the crisis with the strong balance sheet.
  • Sell IBKR Sep 18 2020 60.0 Calls at 0.15
    • Reasons
      • Just selling a Call at around my exit target price (still undecided on fully letting it go).
      • The share price is at a resistance zone it seems, so might get to pocket this coffee money.
That's all for my money for now.

The US market are like super bullish yet other markets are lagging.

From the way things look, I probably have to sit and wait for decent valuations from a dip again or something.

Conclusion

Tech has pushed VT YTD into much better results, despite the other sectors lagging.
My portfolio has rode a little on the new tech positions. YTD is now down ~8%, with the long term XIRR now barely positive, I hope it is a good thing.

My cash position is currently at about 11%. Probably keep an eye out for opportunities while conserving cash (there's still a balance transfer the size of about 10% of my portfolio ready).
