Happy Chinese New Year Everyone!
I hope everyone had an awesome one! (Heard some people went on chalets and overseas trip >_>)
Well, I think probably you all guessed what I am going to say, I do
know everyone is enjoying awesome goodies/snacks/food out there without a
care for your weight etc. But I think some care should be applied to
those cash in red packets.
Yes, it feels like a bonus given to you from a job/surprise
additional pocket money (from those people who aren’t working yet). But
one should not forget fiscal discipline even in these festive times (as
well as your bonus from work).
Treat these sums of money as how you would normally redistribute your
salary (and maybe use them to channel directly into
investments/assets/loans if it gives a good boost for the future). I’m
not saying you can’t have any fun from those ang bao money, maybe 5-10%
will do =) No need to splurge all of them (I’ll be honest and said I
saved all).
One more advice, go easy on gambling okay? Best don’t gamble (unless
you’re a shark just out there to eat those little fishes, i.e. blackjack
and card counting teams, but that’s so mean). Buying the lottery over
here because the winning amount is big is a bad idea (percentage
probability of winning is so tiny), remember risk management, it’s not
about how much you can win but how much you can lose, paired with
probability of success. Don’t let the win amount blind you =)
(I’ll admit I found a red tape on the floor of my desk prior to CNY
with 4 numbers and bought them on excitement. Stupid me. Must remind
myself tsk tsk.)
Update:
Yup, it never won, as predicted. But a friend of mine gave numbers but didn't buy it ^^"
