Sounds quite cool and appeals to the DIY in me. (Cheap Dip pen too)
Though I made a few modifications to the instructions to fit my purposes
Brush Dowels from Art Friend ($0.45), Root Beer Can from NCCS vending machine and a template from Popcanpen.com =)
Instead of a rounded curved end, I cut an italic tip. I secured the nib to the dowel via clear tape, removed the sponge end and snapped the end off.
Close up view of the tip. |
Testing the pen. |
Well, it still looks ugly. The wood looks meh.
So I thought I coated the whole wooden body (up to the end of the scotch tape) in Oil-Based Timberlac Polyurethane Decorative Wood Varnish by Nippon.
I trimmed the nib width to slightly less than 2mm (my handwriting isn't that small).
TADA! The final product! |
Total costs for a single pen? About $1. =D
Cheap and good.
EDIT (2015/06/20): It seems that I have been using it wrong for years. I'm supposed to use it face down! ^^" Silly me. I modified it to be closer to a Pilot Parallel/Lamy Italic nib instead of the calligraphy pen.
